Room 415, Friday Morning

The last time Cassandra had tumbled onto Fandom, she had not been prepared. It was different this time: she had brought a whole host of clothes and supplies with her. She had waited to see if the Causeway was blocking her departure again (yes) and if the island had changed any in her absence (no), but now she was certain of both matters and it was time to unpack and organize her affairs.

Which meant folding. Lots and lots of folding. She had brought padded leather armor this time, as well as her more sturdy set; it needed to be cared for properly. And of course there were the books she had... borrowed from the Seeker library, to ensure she would have some knowledge of what she was dealing with, should either of the island's Thedosian mages become possessed or dabble in blood magic.

She had opened the door slightly to let fresh air in, but she would be busy for most of the morning.

"You have a lot of stuff," Gwen said from where she was getting ready for class.

"I believed it was prudent to come prepared, if I were to return," Cassandra offered, as she put a book away.

"You definitely did that," Gwen nodded. "Kinda doubting you brought back a lot of light reading there."

[seeks_truth]

Cassandra shot her a wry look. "There are two apostates on the island now," she said. "If they misbehave, we must be ready."

"...I have no idea what that means," she admitted.

[seeks_truth]

Cassandra let out a sigh. "Apostates are escaped mages from my home world," she said.

[stacyexperiment]

"And they're bad guys?" she guessed.

[seeks_truth]

"Not necessarily," Cassandra said lightly. "Many of them are simply people with too much power. But there are great dangers associated with mages, as they are prone to being possessed by demons, or tempted into using blood magic. That is why we ensure they are watched over. Apostates, however, have spurned this oversight."

[stacyexperiment]

"Not sure I can blame them for showing up here then," Gwen decided. "Freedom's always nice, and they've still got squirrels reporting on them. Doesn't sound terrible to me."

[seeks_truth]

"You will feel that way until one of them becomes an abomination, or decides to experiment with blood magic," Cassandra said dryly. "Possession is nothing to make jokes about."

"Not joking," Gwen said. "But considering everyone's freakishly good and nice and doesn't get into trouble here, it's probably the best place they could be."

[seeks_truth]

Cassandra snorted. "It only takes one demon with a silver tongue to make the difference," she said, "and your 'freakishly good' people will be corpses."

"I'd say this is the most depressing conversation I've had before coffee lately, but sadly it's not," Gwen said.

Cassandra picked up another book and put it in a case. "I returned because I am the only one who can keep an eye on Anders," she said. "Though I am sorry if that depresses you."

[stacyexperiment]

"Yeah, who wouldn't want to hear about demons killing everybody." Especially since Gwen had sort of seen that happen over the summer. "I think I'm gonna get some food."

Cassandra slanted a glance at Gwen over her shoulder.

... She had been too severe again, hadn't she? "I... yes. Enjoy your meal."
